Kick Sales Up a Notch with Billboard Advertising

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Outdoor advertising is quickly gaining in popularity; the wide impact and cost-effective nature of billboard advertising is undeniable. In fact it was reported in 2006 that businesses spent over five and a half billion dollars on outdoor advertising that year. Billboard advertising continues to gain as a quality method of expressing a company’s sales message and market their services.

If you are wondering how much it costs and if the costs are worth the money, you can be rest assured that billboard advertising is your best advertising bet. Using billboards to advertise your goods and services is a smart move, and the cost of putting up a billboard advertisement is much less than what you would expect.

Billboard advertising has become increasingly popular recently, and there are several reasons for this. The cost effectiveness of this form of outdoor media has got to be a top reason for its recent success. Compare the 24 hour per day exposure of a billboard versus a TV commercial or a newspaper ad. These advertisements have a useful life of 30 seconds at most. In addition to this great advantage is the fact that billboard advertising is very affordable.

The Cost Of Billboard Advertising

The cost of putting up a billboard ranges anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 a month. At this rate, ten billboard advertisements would run roughly $30,000 a month. If this sounds like a lot of money to you, think again - because a running a full-page newspaper advertisement for a single day in any major newspaper will cost you the same amount - and it is not nearly as effective.

Technological advances have also played a big role in contributing to the cost-effective nature of billboard advertising. In days past, billboards were generally hand-painted, which was a costly and time-consuming task. However, with today’s advanced computer technology, billboards are now being designed through computers and are printed on posterboard material or vinyl paper and then glued to the billboard backdrop. The outcome is a superior quality advertisement in less time and at affordable rates.

Benefits Of Billboard Advertising

By selecting billboard signs as your preferred advertising medium, you are choosing the most high-impact, cost-effective medium. With the advances in technology today, you have limitless possibilities for the design of your company’s billboards. Here are a few benefits of choosing billboard advertising over other media:

1. Billboard advertising grabs the attention of potential customers like no other form of advertising can.

2. One of the most cost-effective mediums of advertising

3. Brand awareness and strong name recognition

4. Colorful, creative and eye-catching ads have more impact

5. Reaches out to thousands of people on a daily basis

6. Targets a specific audience according to location

7. Ads are not lost in the mix of competitors and editorials

8. Messages are delivered continuously and frequently

9. Directs potential clients and customers to your place of business

These are but a few of the many advantages that billboard advertising has. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder that so many business owners are using billboard advertising today.

From putting them up at airports to sticking them on car or truck wraps to even showcasing them at movie theatres, billboard advertising makes it possible for you to advertise your products and services anywhere.

Chronic Family Melt-Downs - Do You Think That Food Can Solve The Problem?

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

The fact: Families are decaying.

The solution: Food and what we do when we eat it.

Look around your neighborhood and you will see husbands, wives, and partners going their separate ways. You’ll hear a ton of reasons, yet food may be the culprit and the solution.

And notice the seemingly functional families where members live in the same house, but they hardly ever see each other. Food may be the root of the issue and the solution.

Mom and/or Dad get up in the morning, grab a quick coffee and toast, and off they go to work - no time for a real sit-down breakfast. Or it’s out of the shower, out the door, with a stop at “Timmy’s Drive-Through” for a breakfast of Canadian champions - an extra large double-double coffee with a honey-glazed doughnut.

At home, the kids get up, push themselves out the door, and trudge to school, with or without breakfast. They scarf down a burger and fries or pop and chips for lunch. After school they snack on whatever is easy and available, by themselves.

Supper is a frenzy of grab-it-on-the-go as some folks head out the door to hockey, volleyball, or whatever is in season. Other members of the family roar off to another meeting. Communication consists of notes on the kitchen table.

For a less active family, supper means everyone fills their plate and munches, with eyes glued to whatever happens to be on TV. Communication consists of, “Pass me the spuds” or “Gimme that remote”.

You may be thinking, “OK, that happens in some homes. How will food improve family life?”

It’s not the food, it is the conscious and deliberate act of sharing food with our family, where we sit, eat, and celebrate our lives together.

Throughout history, it has been a tradition for families, tribes, and communities to gather for celebrations, and a feast is normally a part of the celebration.

What do we do at Christmas, Easter, and Birthdays? We eat, drink, talk, laugh, and play together. Regardless of the occasion, it is the gathering, and communicating that really matters. And yet, food is the common thread to what we do. It is the food that provides the opportunity to stop our hustle and bustle, sit down, and share our love and appreciation with other human beings.

Food can solve the family problem and here is the daily challenge for you, if you choose to accept it.

*** Make a conscious agreement with your immediate family to eat your meals together every day. “Be” together in mind and body, so turn off the weapons of mass distraction: TV, Ipod, radio, cell phone.

* Breakfast - Get up early so you can share a sit-down family breakfast. Plan and prepare the feast together or each can do their own thing. Sit together at the same table, at the same

time, and actually speak and listen. Share the great opportunities in-store for the day. An added bonus is that you are providing your body and mind with nutritional requirements for healthy living.

* Lunch - Hey, I understand this may be tough to get together for this one. If you can, make eating together at lunch a habit as well.

* Supper - Create an evening celebration. Make it a team effort so one person does not feel saddled with the planning, preparation, and clean-up. Work together, sit together, eat together, and share the greatest parts of your day together. I repeat, turn off the weapons of mass distraction. Allow the phone to take messages so you are not interrupted. After all, who is more important, your family whom you love and care for, or a tele-marketer soliciting donations for “The Foundation For Kids Who Ran Away From Home Because Their Family Didn’t Feast Together”?

Your success depends on your conscious commitment to make this happen for the long-term. Ask your family for their input, support, and commitment. Negotiate an agreement that works for all. “Ask” rather than “tell”.

Will this strengthen family bonds? The close-knit, happy families I know do this.

Carol and I attribute much of our success, as a couple and a family, to this conscious habit of celebrating life as we eat together.

If you say, “we can’t afford the food”, my offer from the last article (Multiple Personality Disorder - I’ve Got It, Do You?) still applies. Accept that challenge and com’on out. I’ll joyfully give you some dang squash.

Gather the clan, sit, eat, and celebrate together. You are creating powerful memories that will improve society for decades. And have fun with it.

Happy feasting!

Herbal Viagra for Lasting Longer in Bed

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Perhaps no other drug in the entire history of humankind has achieved as much fame (and at the same time, notoriety) as Viagra. Targeted at curing impotency, this drug — developed by the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer — has achieved almost cult status, with sales of over hundreds of thousands of pills everyday around the globe. The success of Viagra itself speaks volumes about how prevalent impotency is among men all over the world.

However, ancient sciences like Ayurveda and Unani have been known and practiced several natural medicines for treating impotence since centuries, and that too with positive results. These therapies are herbal, and most of them have been proven for their efficacies in the western world too.

But before going into details of the natural treatment options available for impotence, let us see what the real Viagra does. Viagra is the trade name for the drug sildenafil citrate. When it is consumed, it helps the blood flow to focus better on the corpus cavernosa of the penis. The corpus cavernosa is composed of several spongy tissues. When these spongy tissues are engorged with blood, the penis becomes hard, which is the state of erection. Thus, Viagra brings about a temporary erection by filling the corpus cavernosa with blood.

There are some disadvantages when a person consumes Viagra. One of the most important ones is that Viagra needs to be continuously used to obtain an erection. No Viagra, no erection. And those who use Viagra know how expensive the little blue pill is! Health-wise, Viagra can produce explained common colds, headaches and dyspepsia. Sometimes, Viagra can produce embarrassing prolonged erections. Prolonged use of Viagra can cause loss of peripheral vision and also total blindness. There have also been cases known of men suffering from heart attacks when having sexual intercourse under the effect of Viagra. Hence, the medical fraternity has always maintained that Viagra is a potentially harmful drug.

This has led both medical experts as well as users to keep seeking for alternatives to Viagra. This has made the herbal supplements ever more popular. The sudden interest of the western world in the Ayurvedic herbs and supplements for the treatment of impotence is due to the success of the Viagra. Before that most men were learning to cope up with their conditions of impotence.

However, now that we know that several herbal supplements exist for the treatment of Viagra, let us see how they affect the male penis. All these are carefully made preparations by mixing just the right amounts of several herbs and then carrying out several intricate processes for blending them. Since the name Viagra has become so common, these preparations are called as herbal Viagras in slang, though they have nothing to do with Viagra. Viagra is a chemical drug, herbal Viagras are made of herbal constituents.

But just like the original Viagra, the herbal Viagras work in two ways:

(i) they improve the circulation of blood to the penis and (ii) they alter the hormones so that the male has better libido.

Herbal supplements are used for the treatment of not just impotence, but several other male sexual problems such as weak libidos, penis curves, penis enlargement, premature ejaculation, etc.

The important herbal constituents used in herbal Viagras are Panax ginseng (Indian Ginseng), Rosemarinus officinalis (Rosemary), Avena sativa (Oats), Muira puama (Potency Wood), Lepidium meyenii (Maca), Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo), Tribulus terrestris (Caltrop) along with scores of other herbs. The first thing that these herbs do is to improve the circulation of blood in the region of the penis, which causes harder and more permanent erections. One more important function is to improve the male sexual hormone, testosterone, which helps in increasing the male libido and also to make the man perform the sexual act better. Some of these herbs can have antidepressant properties, which are very much beneficial in the treatment of men who are suffering from problems pertaining to weak erections.

In the Indian Ayurvedic tradition, there is a whole list of more herbs which are used in the preparation of herbal Viagras. These are different from the above herbs, in the sense that they are used almost exclusively for the treatment of impotence. Some of these herbs are the dong quai, kava, blessed thistle, black cohosh, golden seal, etc. These are the same herbs that are used in the enhancement of breasts in females.

In recent times, a particular substance called as yohimbine has gained a lot of popularity in the treatment of male sexual problems. Yohimbine is extracted in its hydrochloride form from the tree Pausinystalia yohimbe, indigenous to West Africa. Yohimbine hydrochloride has been proved to generate better and more sustained erections in men. It is being widely used nowadays in alternatives to Viagra. Some Ayurvedic supplements are using yohimbine in their preparations.

Herbal Viagras are made by carefully mixing specific herbs like those mentioned above in the proper proportion. They might be mixed in some oils, or burnt into ash, or molten into a semi-liquid semi-solid kind of preparation, or prepared in some other way. The basic intention is to make the best use of the chemicals present in the herbs. The herbal Viagras are generally to be taken with milk.

Since the herbal Viagras contain more than one herb in them, one major plus point becomes that a single preparation can be used to treat several male sexual problems at once. Also, since they are made of natural herbs, they do not have major side effects like the real Viagra does.

But some precautions need to be taken. First and foremost, if you are suffering from hypotension, you need to ask an Ayurvedic doctor whether you can have the herbal Viagra. Some people claim that since herbal Viagras alter the hormonal balance of the body, they are potentially harmful. This is true indeed if the herbal Viagras are taken for a long time. There may be interference with other hormone-driven activities of the body. Some components of the herbal Viagras can also cause depression, dyspepsia, headaches, common colds, etc. when used separately. However, whether they can cause the same effects in their mixture form or not is yet to be studied properly.

For these reasons, the use of herbal Viagras are also considered skeptically by medical experts. However, the general idea is that they are much safer than the natural Viagras and more usable for a wide number of people.

Toxins are in everything and we may not even know it. They are all around in the food that we eat every day and the water we are drinking, and also in the air we are breathing in. These contaminants are on our skin from many other things. You need to stop and think about your body and how it is hit each day with all of these problems. Can you say that it is strong enough to handle it?

The min idea is that our body breaks down all these things to use so that it works in the right way. When the chemicals get into the body, it lets off a natural reaction to separate the junk from the good stuff so that it can not harm the body. The problem is that some of these nasty things can actually get into youth blood and become part of the cells in the body. Some of the toxins are gotten rid of in the urine and when you sweat or in your bowel movements. This makes it easy for the body to help to keep themselves cleans and healthy.

Many scientists are trying to figure out what the correlation is between the cells and the toxins that will make them go crazy and create cancer cells. All the professionals are in agreement that the phytochemicals that are found in many of the herbs will also aid the body in getting rid of toxins. This is the main idea behind an herbal detox. There are many different ways to provide the body with a detoxification and they also help with many different things. When you detoxify the body, you clean the body from bad chemicals that make you feel bad, tired, that cause you to be obese, have a slow digestive system, have problems with allergies, problems breathing, and other problems with your health.

Detoxing your body with the help of herbal supplements will give your kidneys, liver, intestines, and lungs and healthier time and give them a chance to work the way they should.

Some of the herbs that you can use to clean your body are the psyllium seed, fibrous seed that gives you a heavy feeling in your stomach and acts like a laxative for you. This is one of the best things you can choose to help with your body detoxification because it is able to pull the toxins to it and grab them in.

To get better function from the liver, milk thistle will help. This herb is an antioxidant that will help the body to get rid of the bad things in the body. Nettle will help the body rid itself of water and also the other plant parts that will help to detoxify the body parts. Burdock root and the seeds also do about the same thing but it is a stronger type of herb and it is a good thing to help wash the body of the toxins that have gathered there. Dandelion root is great for cleaning the liver. It helps the body to get rid of the waste products and works well for the treatment of the kidneys,

You will find more than one type of detoxification program available. The one you pick for yourself should only clean the body of the bad things and only that and nothing else. It only works when the body is cleaned from the gathering of waste products and radicals that will stop you from having the energy that you need.

Astrology Forecast for August 2007 - General Tendencies for All Sun Signs

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Last month the planets were relatively quiet, and we didn’t have any negative aspects the first half of the month. Well, August is going to make-up for July’s passivity. We are going to be feeling some kind of major planetary influence just about every day this month. And, there will be a Lunar Eclipse on the August Full Moon. Get ready for some changes.

We should be feeling very confident and optimistic as the month begins with the Sun dancing with Jupiter. There could also be some financial rewards, so any kind of investing or gambling decisions should come out favorable. Mars and Mercury will begin holding hands on Thursday, August 3, and then on Friday the Moon moves to create a grand trine with Jupiter and the Sun. Then on Saturday the Moon moves to create a grand trine with Saturn and Pluto. Its going to be a fabulous weekend. We will be ready to slow down and enjoy life, and social events will go well. We will be feeling very optimistic and patient, and our willpower and stamina will be strong.

There may be a few travel problems on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, August 5 - 7, with Jupiter at direct station. Those of us with dominate Sagittarius in our charts may find these few days especially difficult, but afterward our lives will begin to show new progress. We may also find ourselves trying to rescue a lover or rescue our bank accounts on Tuesday through Thursday, August 7 - 9, as Venus and Mars come to a square as they cross the cusps into new signs.

There could be conflicts with friends, and some of us may overindulge in our addictions the weekend of August 11 as Mercury conjuncts and Neptune opposes the New Moon. There could be some major misunderstandings, and our egos will be fragile. There is also a potential for emotional abuse as Venus conjuncts Saturn. And, we may decide this is the last time, because Pluto will be trine to Venus and Saturn. Pluto may motivate us to let go of some of the garbage in our lives.

Things will turn around on Tuesday, August 14, and continue through Tuesday August 21. We should find our attitudes improving as Mercury, Venus, the Sun, and Saturn all move to a conjunction in Leo with Pluto still signing in harmony. We may feel a new discipline and patience within ourselves. We may also engage in some powerful conversations (or possibly seminars) that change our lives. It will also be a very potent time to connect with lost lovers, with Venus in retrograde.

Tuesday through Thursday, August 21 - 23, may bring extravagance to the forefront with Mars and Jupiter at an opposition. And Wednesday through Saturday, August 22 - 25, Venus and Neptune also move to an opposition making us impractical and vulnerable to deception. Also, Mercury is going to square Mars and Jupiter on Friday and Saturday, August 24 and 25. This will make it difficult to communicate with others, and some of us will be jumping to conclusions. Postpone any life changing decisions (or incurring any major debts) until after Saturday, August 25, and try like hell to avoid arguments.

The Full Moon lunar eclipse in Pisces is on Tuesday morning, August 28, but we will probably start feeling the effects as early as Sunday. Mercury and Uranus will also be at an opposition on the same day. We may be feeling rather irritated to say the least, and some of us will be looking to our addictions for a crutch. If you can get past the irritation and maintain your sobriety, this could be an extremely spiritual Full Moon. This would be an excellent time to “Let go, and Let God.” Our connections with our higher power on this day could be tremendous.

We may find ourselves feeling renewed and revitalized as the month ends under the Aries Moon, but Labor Day weekend could bring many challenges. There will be a strong potential for accidents and arguments on this American holiday, and we could encounter some financial and personal problems with the Sun angry with Jupiter, Mars fighting with Uranus, and Mercury jealous of Pluto. Keep expectations low this holiday weekend, and use extra caution driving.

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Electric wheel chairs used to be looked on as a luxury, but for many they are a necessity. This is not only true for those who are handicapped, but for the elderly as well. Here is a look at how an electric wheel chair can help improve the quality of everyday life.

For many, having someone close by to help push their wheel chair just isn’t possible. An electric model gives someone the freedom from having to depend on others. It lets you be in charge again!

You can find electric wheel chairs in all different types, models, and price ranges.

One of the newer models of wheel chairs are the ones with an infra-red sensor device. This device prevents the chair from colliding with a wall or other objects which could easily cause a serious injury.

You can also find electric chairs which have a built-in memory and can reverse their direction. This back-tracking can really help in tight spots.

With any electric wheel chair it is important to keep in mind that there is a learning curve involved. You must learn how to control the speed and direction, which will take a little practice to master.

Even with that being said, it shouldn’t take long to understand and operate. The payoff is well worth the time.

An electric wheel chair will certainly go a long way in improving anyone’s standard of living and feeling of being free again.

Now that you are familiar with my background in this industry, let me offer several suggestions to revamp your website. If implemented, your website has a great chance to get to that next level - ultimately turning your business from an “ordinary business” into a “competitive e-business.”

Content Management

Content Management is a system that allows your business to easily manage certain components and areas of your website. Such areas that a Content Management System allow you to control include: page content, page names, images, pictures, news events, frequently asked questions, articles, blog posts, and other website areas of importance. e-Invoicing and Online Payment Solutions

If your business focuses on product sales, would you benefit from collecting client payments through online means? If so, then an e-Invoicing or Online Payment Solution would be a great way to facilitate this process for you. There are various ways to setup an e-Invoicing and Payment Solution to process payments online. A few of the most popular methods include: Credit Cards processing, ACH and EFT transfers, Direct Deposits, PayPal integration, Google Checkout integration, and the list goes on.

Having a solution like this could truly bring your business up-to-date and allow you to focus more on growing your business and less time trying to manage the collection of payments from your clients and customers.

Here at Hudson Horizons, we use e-Invoicing to bill our clients via email. Our customers simply click a link in the email and complete their credit card details through a secure online payment form. Our system then processes their credit cards and the payment is deposited directly into our back account - it’s that simple. e-Invoicing isn’t all about making it easier for us as a business; it’s also a more convenient way for our clients to make payments since they no longer need to write checks and mail payments to us.

Custom Workflow Processes

If your business has specific internal business processes that are performed everyday, you might consider having this process completely automated through your own website. If this process takes time and requires documents, contracts or other materials to be created and distributed, consider setting up a dynamic web-based workflow process that does all this for you on-the-fly.

Turning a specific business task into a dynamic workflow process will inevitably save your business time, money and simplify your operations in a very short period of time. We’ve had much success doing this for our clients. Recently, we implemented such solutions for a client’s website, taking their wedding and event entertainment business to the next level. We set up a custom workflow process that now allows them to generate comprehensive event plans and contracts and electronically submit them to reception halls, bands, and clients in a few simple steps. This process now joins all the various parties that relate to an event in one simple-to-use system. This saved our client thousands of dollars per month and, because they require less time to manage daily operations and internal business processes, enabled them to take on more customers.

Customer and User Management

Having the ability to easily manage your customers and users in the back-end of your website is extremely important to the success of your business. Having this control within your website will enable you to: activate/disable accounts, reset passwords, view contact information, email users, track changes, view profiles, manage payments and view order history all in one centralized system.

Social Media Capabilities

Social media describes the online technologies and practices that people use to share content, opinions, insights, experiences, perspectives, and media themselves.

Social media can take many different forms, including text, images, audio, and video. The social media sites typically use tools like message boards, forums, podcasts, bookmarks, communities, wikis, blogs/weblogs etc.

According to Wikipedia, a few prominent examples of social media applications are:

  • Wikis: Wikipedia

  • Virtual Reality: Second Life

Everyday, millions of people use search engines to find information on products and services. However, most people generally only visit the first few results of the search, causing helpful yet poorly-ranked sites to go unnoticed. Without top positions, your site could be overlooked as well. For this reason, it is vital to ensure that your site has every opportunity to be discovered.

As the Internet continues to dramatically increase in the number of users and websites, companies face more competition everyday. In order to keep your website competitive and its ranking as high as possible, you must execute what is known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and continually perform e-Marketing Services to keep your website fresh and in the eye of your target audience.

The Art of Developing Salespeople

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

It’s funny, but there isn’t a consensus on what a sales manager should do in their day-to-day activities. Some managers are content shuffling papers, responding to emails, talking to reps on the phone or occasionally joining a salesperson when they’re calling on a friendly account.

Let’s set the record straight. The primary role of the sales manager is to develop the skills of their direct report salespeople. I can hear the groans now! Yes, but sales managers in our company have their own accounts they are responsible for. There’s not enough time to do that and manage. (That I can agree with). Here’s another priceless bit of wisdom. Our managers hire the best, therefore they don’t need coaching or development. Great, then why have the sales manager?

Before we get to developing skills the correct way let’s cover a “how not to do it”. Let’s take Billy Rae (obviously fictitious) who was just promoted from being a crackerjack sales stud. He’s never been taught what to do as a sales manager so he figures why not travel with one of the reps. After a few sales calls the salesperson says to Billy Rae, “What would you have done on that sales call”? Well, ole Billy stokes the fire of advice and waxes eloquent on how he would have closed the sale on the first call. Of course, what B.R. doesn’t get is that not every one has his personality and specific skill set. And those skill sets may not be easily transferable to another salesperson. The rule of thumb is don’t teach others the techniques that were hard wired into your style. Not everyone will get how to sell “your way”.

The answer to the riddle is to use a sales language that all the salespeople and sales manager use. This becomes the common ground for skill development. What should the sales language be? That’s entirely up to the manager/company. There is a wealth of solid sales training systems or processes available. My suggestion is to find one of those and put each of the salespeople and the manager through that training.

Back to the situation with Billy Rae. After some bumps and grinds Bill has become the astute sales manager who focuses on skill development using techniques the entire sales organization learned. If he was now asked how to deal with a money objection the answer would be,”during training we talked about how to use a probe/question to determine if the objection was a smoke screen. What question could you have asked to open up the dialog”? Now the rep and the sales manager can role-play different options that the rep will use when that situation rears its ugly head again.

It is easier to coach when two people use the same sales language and techniques. Then there is no guess work about the meaning behind the coaching.

I was in medical device sales for the better part of 20 years as a field sales representative, regional sales manager and VP of Sales for a variety of companies, all of which sold cardiovascular products. The companies ranged from start up to fully mature.

I am also one of those people who needs different challenges and risks so the next stop was as a franchisee with a sales training company called Sandler Systems Inc. After 8 years I morphed my company Selling Dynamics into a Sales Management Consulting company out of Minneapolis. My goal over the last several years has been to coach sales managers on how to get the most out of their salespeople. I also work as the sales manager for companies where the owner has tried his hand at sales management and found the job frustrating. Typically, in situations like these, I will train the salespeople and, if necessary, realign the sales staff to better reflect the needs of the company and the marketplace.

How To Select The Right T42 Thinkpad Model?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Selecting the right T42 ThinkPad can be a daunting task if you do not start out with some clear objectives in mind. You will quickly realize how true this is when you do a simple search for the T42 ThinkPad at shopping.com. The search will return about 260 results. So how do you pick out the right ThinkPad from this crowd?

The first difference that you will note is that the prices greatly vary. This tells you that the specifications also have to be different. Therefore to begin to get a better understanding of the particular specs that you may want in your ThinkPad, a closer look at the components used is in order.

Although all T42 ThinkPad’s are equipped with the same CPU Processor, namely the Pentium M type, the clock speed ranges widely between 1.5GHz and 2.1 GHz. Your choice of what processor speed to go for will be guided by two main factors. What you want to use your ThinkPad for and your available budget. For instance heavy graphics and video editing will naturally require higher processor speeds.

Still on the subject of speed, the RAM also differs ranging between 256MB to 1GB DDR SDRAM. It is useful for you to note that the T42 ThinkPad’s that IBM ships, all have a 333MHz high speed RAM.

The combination of the RAM and processor speed to match the most common tasks and applications that you will be using with your ThinkPad will determine how fast you will be getting things done.

You will also need to decide on the hard drive capacity you want, which goes with an RPM speed. For the T42 ThinkPad, this ranges from 5400 on the basic low-end models to 7200 on the top range.

For most folks, the display size will not make much of a difference and will hardly be considered. For the few in graphic and video applications amongst others, the display size may be critical for what they want to achieve with their ThinkPad. There are basically two display size options for the ThinkPad. 14.1″ and 15″. The first will give you a limit of 1024×768 pixels maximum resolution while the other is capable of 1400×1050.

In addition, there are a number of Graphic Processors to choose from for your ThinkPad. They include:

  • The ATI MOBILITY FireGL T2
  • The ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500
  • The ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000
  • The ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600

You will also need to decide on what CD/DVD combination you want for your T42 ThinkPad. You can go for the basic DVD-ROM only. Or you can settle for the top of the range re-writable DVD and CD combo.

You can also go for a ThinkPad with Finger Print Sensor technology, for a premium price tag, of course.

Ultimately the decisions you make on the specs that you would like for your T42 ThinkPad model will greatly influence the final weight which could range from 4.9lbs to 6.2lbs. This is important to keep a close eye on because there are people to whom the weight will be important.
